 I watched Yasmin Ahmad's latest movie last nite @ the Picturehouse. It caused quite a stir in Malaysia when the lead actress shaved her head bald for this movie..she was even condemned for her 'unIslamic' actions by many Religious body in Malaysia, there were news that Muallaf will most likely be banned in Malaysia.
Anyway, I’m going to do some cut-and-paste from Yasmin’s blog for the synopsis of ‘Muallaf’ :
“20-year old Rohani and her 14-year old sister Rohana are two Malay girls on the run from their wealthy, abusive father. Finding refuge in a smaller town, their secret little world collides with that of Brian , a 30-year old Catholic school teacher. The young man finds himself irresistibly drawn towards the sisters, and the extraordinary courage with which they face adversity, in a relationship that inevitably forces Brian to confront a haunting memory of his own troubled childhood. In this story of lost souls who find comfort in each other, friendship opens the window to forgiveness and a reconciliation with the past. ”
An emotionally engaging film, Yasmin’s obvious personal connection to both Muallaf’s storyline and the lovingly-crafted characters show up in her direction. Both the title and religious undercurrent might initially seem a tad heavy-handed, but delving deeper reveals the inherent message found in all her films: Humanity.
Cleverly using culture and spirituality as a backdrop, Yasmin ultimately underlines human relationships with her signature pluralist approach and a sensitive touch. One might feel her approach and subject matter were replications of her previous films, but the power of good storytelling cannot be denied, especially when it provokes, questions and opens the mind.
“It is not a religious story at all,” Yasmin said of Muallaf. “It’s about coping with a difficult past, how we all have crap in our lives. It’s about how different people cope with it differently. Some cope by being hateful and shutting themselves in. Some cope by forgiving, others by being brave. This is about how the brave help draw out those who shut themselves in and help them reconcile with their ghosts.” The movie was well-helmed by real-life sisters and its 90% in English AND its not your typical Malaysian Malay movies. It also starred Yeo Yan Yan of 881 fame, & her favourite phrase in the movie was 'Chee Toad', mine in real life..hehe.

 A friend's daughter was representing the Singapore Hockey Team in a Sports Meet in Australia , so I took the opportunity to send her off & at the same time jalan-jalan @ T3, last nite. My nieces know her too so i brought them along since we have not been to T3 before since it opened.
Had dinner @ Popeye, a change from the usual KFC since 2 of their outlets are at Changi Airport & the other being @ the Singapore Flyer..I remembered last having them when i sent 2 ex-colleagues to Cambodia last year.

Kebosanan melanda..masih banyak yang aku rancangkan dalam cuti sekolah ini tapi belum kesampaian. AKu masih ada 2 kelas malam yang masih aku kendalikan, RT yang akan bermula Ahad ini dan lukisan yang belum aku mulai...namun aku telah mula mencuba masakan yang aku perolehi daripada rancangan-rancangan memasak yang telah aku tontoni..
I have tried many recipes taken from programmes like Rachel Ray Show, Take Home Chef, Everyday Food..as long as the ingredients are easy to find, i might try them. Most are successful cos i was the one sampling them..haha
Anyway, since i've starting cooking..i've been cleaning the kitchen more often now cos I HATE the ants..as long as there are food particles, sauce droplets anywhere..they will find them with many friends in tow of coz. Well..it made my kitchen cleaner of coz but these ants are such a nuisance. Sometimes i get creative with ways of getting rid of them, after boiling water i will just pour it on the kitchen counter & drowned them all....HAHAHA..Labels: Me

Aku telah mengambil keputusan untuk 'mengghaibkan' kekotak tag, yang telah berulangkali disalahgunakan. Pesanan terakhir daripada seorang kafir yang menggelarkan dirinya AHLIAN dah seorang lagi keparat jahanam bernama JIALATLAH, membuat ku megambil keputusan muktamad..seperti pesanan di MSN ku..IF YOU HAVE NOTHING TO SAY..JUST SHUT UP!!
Aku tak perlu sesiapa untuk memberitahu apa yang aku lakukan denan hidupku..walaupun ianya hanya sebagai candangan sahaja..atau mungkin senda gurauan. Selagi aku bernadi di bumi Allah s.w.t. , selagi itu hanya aku yang bertanggung jawab atas perjalanan hidupku dengan pentunjuk dari yang Maha Esa..keberkatanNya serta rahmatNya.
Aku tak perlu ambil endah dengan mereka kerana mereka

My nephew is serving his NS now..& everytime he talks to his friend on the phone he would use the CBs & the KNNBs.. that he picked up from camp. Typical of any NS man...hehe...of coz not in the presence of his parents.
Anyway, one fine day..my 8 year old niece asked her elder sister after curbing her curiosity for the longest time i think..

Last year around this time, i was in Hong Kong & Macau with selected NPCC cadets, from various units, with XY representing ours. Didnt get to shop much tho' as we were busy doing official visits through out the trip.
Will be having a 1st Anniversary Makan Session tommorrow organised by XY. It was during the SPF Award Presentation that i last met most of them.
Just hoping that the attendance is good. See u guys tomorrow.

Anyway, the visuals are very strong right down to the captions. Coincidentally, many of my ex students are busy right now looking for a 'suitable' part-time job, i guess if they are less fussy they are plenty of jobs available. It is a part-time job anyway NOT a career..hehe..
There will be plenty of options when all of u are carving out a career in the future upon graduation .. so that u wont be stucked to a wrong job..just like the pics below...hahaha! But right now just grab that low wage part time job ...yes that include u KJ, ZY and IL...

I always enjoy having friends or students over for potlucks, pastas or even simple nasi goreng..until i realised my Tefal pots & frying pans are getting too small as the guests get bigger..hehe..
Anyway, over the weekend, i chanced upon these WMF Kochgeschirrset on offer AND I know i have to get them. Widely known by its initials, WMF was founded in 1880 by the merger of two existing German companies, the WÜRTTEMBERGISCHE METALWARENFABRIK. Its a 6-pcs stainless steel Cookware set which includes the 28cm frying pan that i so need now..btw I know of an ex colleague who swears by this brand only for everything in her kitchen. Well..i had my first group of guests immediately after the purchase, where i get to try my new recipe taken from The Rachel Ray Show i watched on the same morning. I m sure the pasta tasted more delicious cooked from my new WMF...hehe

My brother-in-law won a Harvey Norman voucher worth a few hundred dollars in his company D&D..but my nieces were the lucky ones.
I accompanied them to get a new toy this afternoon with that voucher..a new Acer Aspire One..its a mini Acer. They wanted to get a pink LENOVO but it was out of stock, so was the Saphire Acer, so they have to settled on a white Acer.

Went out with my nieces last nite to warch HSM3 as promised. They enjoyed the movie very much of cos, with everybody has their favourite characters. After the movie..they attended my Malay class cos the theatre was really near the CC. They said they wanted to see me teach but left after 10 minutes later cos they saw a playground nearby..hhahaa

With the exams over..i have so much time on hand. It is really going to be a real school holiday for me unlike previous years where school holidays meant more meetings, more planning & other never-ending stories.
Well, this time round i can read the many books that I've yet to read, i think i have 4 new books...

Today is the last paper for most of my students taking the O level examinations, my niece & for myself too..& more prior appointments need to be taken care of.

2) A 1st Anniversary get-together planned for a group of hardworking people

4) A makan session with Wil & Gang
5) A cooking and sampling session with my artists
6) Annual Bangkok trip with my good friends.

Was mugging..for my exam when it striked..one time..two times...3rd...empat..i lost count already. I dont think it got anything to do with my dinner..or perhaps i was just too nervous due to the exams. I have visited the rest room many times throughout the night..MANY TIMES. It has very long since i last sat for a major examinations...but i never have such problems before.
Nevertheless..i must be strong & endure..hehe

I first heard about him a few days ago over the radio..& then he appeared in the newspapers. For those who have not read the papers due to the exams or ur hectic social life, let me introduce you to this creative guy. A British music graduate,19 years old, has officially changed his name to Captain Fantastic Faster than Superman Spideran Batman Wolverine The Hulk and the Flash Combined- thought to be the longest name. Formerly known as George Garrat he chose the name as he wanted to be unique...well i think he is just crazy...imagine when he has to take his examinations & has to write his full name on every single paper that he has written..haha Labels: Others

Woke up this morning & realized he had left..apparently he had quit his job & no longer afford to pay the rent. Silly me to actually believed him. I have no hard feelings againt him..but he left with the gate keys. Thru his sms, he said he had called me & knocked on my bedroom door but i was too deep in slumberland to realize it..Luckily thats the only key gave him..i must now lock my wooden door & wil get the padlock lock soon...StOOpid tenant..
Anyway, he left some of his things behind like the bedsheets and pillowcases..which i will burn together with the pillows & the bolster. Luckily the mattress is still wrapped with the plastic covering..or i will have to burn that too. I have been airing the room, with fabreze, the air freshener and even scented candles but his stench seemed to linger..
However he has also left behind all these glasses that he has accumulated during the Olympic
season..which i can use cos they are still in their packaging..hehe

The New Paper has always been my daily supplement..since my NS days..yes that long ago.
However recently, everytime i purchase my New Paper i will wear a smile on my face cos it reminded me of an incident not very long ago.
It was during the period when my artists were busy preparing for their Paper 1 in the art room almost every Saturdays. Anyway,there was a student, lets call him K, who always buy me lunch or drinks, everytime he buys himself lunch.
That day, I told him to buy 2 newspapers for me.
He came back after lunch with 2 NEW PAPERS..hehe... I asked him why do i need 2 NEW PAPERS?
When i said 2 newspaper, i meant 1 New Paper & 1 Straits Time.
He became the target of newpapers jokes since then..among his classmates & me especially.
Yes KangKang ..thats wasnt very long ago..haha

Joined my friends for the Annual ATC @ Pulau Ubin over the weekend...oh how i missed those times when we spent many overseas camp together & all our crazy antics to occupy the time away...hehe
I definitely missed my cadets too. Their enthusiasm and their zeal for fun and excitement, however they are always on task and never fails to perform beyond expectation.
Coincidentally, one of our girls, JPC, was selected to be the Best Female Camper for the secondary 2s.

Waited for him till midnite..my tenant was supposed to leave by Saturday but since i will be at Ubin till Sunday i tot Sunday was a better choice. His laundries were still hanging in the kitchen, his barang-barang were all packed and his slippers were still outside the door. However there was still no sign of him..sms-ed him many times but received no reply. Should i be worried??
I am goin to bed now and i tot i might as well lock the doors so that he will call me when he cant enter the house..but i tot otherwise so that i can sleep in peace..hehehe..
