Genap 17 hari sudah kita berpuasa, setiap pagi pukul 5 deringan telefon bimbit ku akan berlagu ,Sandarkan Hati nyanyian Letto, menyedarkan ku dari mimpi. Itulah jam loceng tak rasmi bulan Ramadhan, petanda waktu sahur ku.
Ucapan terima kasih kpd Saifulbahri, jam loceng tak rasmi ku semenjak Ramadhan bermula. Labels: Ramadhan 07

Time flies real fast, today is the 16th day of Ramadhan. Last nite, we went on our annual Ramadhan Bazaar outing with my HC neighbour and my ex neighbour, LLS. Another ex neighbour , flew our kite yet again..half expected it tho' .
Altho LLS had to attend to an official meeting, he managed to meet us in time. He said, & i quoted, Your promise is as good as your weight in gold... a Chinese sayings in seems, sounds better in Hokkien or maybe Hakka, not quite sure.
However i Agree.Totally.Labels: Ramadhan 07, School

According to WIKIPEDIA- cross-cultural communication (CCC) is a field of study that looks at how people from differing cultural backgrounds endeavor to communicate.
Cross–cultural communication tries to bring together such relatively unrelated areas as cultural anthropology and established areas of communication. Its core is to establish and understand how people from different cultures communicate with each other.
However, since I last remembered, I have always had problem with CCC. In my previous life, language barrier with my Hong Konger manager, culture clashing with my English BIL, lost in translation with my French-Italian lecturer, and most recently, several miscommunications with a foreigner of close proximity.
Are they really multifarious to comprehend? Am I too convoluted to grasp? Am I simply too impatient in CCC? Well...saya tak tahu dan tak peduli.. Labels: Ramadhan 07

Yawn...lack of sleep again.Wakes up at 5am every morning for sahur ( pre-dawn breakfast during Ramadhan).
I get irritated easily.
Everyone seems to be an annoyance.
My HC neighbour imperturbably commented that I am slightly more sensitive during Ramadhan...so beware..she added.
Maybe more cranky..but more senstive..i dun think so! Labels: Ramadhan 07, School

When my lecturer mentioned artist Damien Hirst's name, it sounded familiar but yet i dont seem to recall any of his paintings or masterpieces. Sir also offhandedly mentioned that he found Hirst's work to be outlandisly pompous. Ostentatious to a hilt.
Curiously i googled him. No wonder..
Damien Hirst's latest artwork is this life-size platinum skull encrusted with 8,601 fine diamonds. The sculpture, titled "For The Love of God," will likely sell for as much as $100 million, making it the priciest contemporary artwork ever made.
One of his Natural History series - dead animals, such as a shark (above) , a sheep or a cow, preserved in formaldehyde.
My lecturer also mentioned that Hirst is the one of the richest artist alive coz his works can fetched millions of dollars, such exorbitance is usually reserved for dead artists.
His works are grandiose and, somewhat conceited.
However i m sure my HC neighbour would definitely approve of Hirst.
They have so much in common...hehe Labels: ART

Yesterday, during our class (Understanding Visual Literacy), our lecturer talked about 1)Immediacy 2)Hypermediacy 3)Remmediacy to discuss about new medias. What is new about new media? A little mind-boggling, especially trying to keep awake on a lazy Monday Afternoon in the Ramadhan month.. Will get back with more details..after more readings. Labels: Ramadhan 07

Bored and appointment-less on a Saturday evening, my Korean housemate suggested a drink at a club. I told him I do not drink. He apologized coz he thot it was due to Ramadhan month. I corrected him and said that I DO NOT drink, Ramadhan or not. He appeared puzzled but added on that his classmates from China are too declining his invitation for a nite out after classes. They are boring people, he added nonchalantly.
They are uncool, he concluded with his clearly enunciated English.
So does that make me uncool coz I dun drink? I quizzed him.
Discomfited by that question, mortified almost... I had startled him speechless.
How does one measure coolness?
Well...

Stucked in the art room on a Saturday afternoon with my budding artists struggling with their preparatory work.
SAD but TRUE.
Beleaguered by their own incompetence, lack of research and deficit of talent...hehe...
VERY SAD but ALSO TRUE
But of coz i do have gems in the making, among these glasses..

Was doing a little revision and recalling last week's lesson about Caravaggio and a new discovery David Hockney made about him.
It's intriguing.
Lets look at this masterpieces of Caravaggio. Supper at Emmaus (1600-01)
Compare the sizes of the fruits in the bowl and the outstretched hand of the man in the extreme right. Something to ponder.
The Doubting of St Thomas (1600)
Look at the direction of the eyes of the man in the foreground.
Lets deliberate.
These observations were made by Hockney. BRILLIANT! Did Caravaggio use optical devices in his work? Thats the question! Are Renaissance artists as articulate as we thought they were? Well.. Labels: Ramadhan 07

Someone stole my milk, a colleague 'screamed' thru the MSN. How can someone be so cheapskate? she lamented. What an audacity! I thot.
She had her suspicion,& went on to list a few potential milk stealer with rather hilarious results. She said that i was spared being on the list coz i was fasting. Lucky me! I was saved by the Ramadhan month.
She bewailed but short of spewing vulgarities cos she respected my fasting mode.
Simply deplorable! We concluded.
Well, i thot i just buy 2 bottles of Meiji to make her day this morning Labels: Ramadhan 07, School

Argghhhhhhhh........... feeling a little feverish & being bombarded by frivolous queries spoilt my day!
Do you have sharpener?... What is artist statement? Do we need to do research first?
How to do mind map? Why 3 hours?
Such foolhardy…

Was introduced to Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio,or simply Caravaggio, during my tutorial a few weeks ago.
Many artists have painted their self-portraits in their larger works. These self-portraits sometimes reflect their mental states. Some people who have mental diseases create masterpieces. Caravaggio is one example.
He draw many self-portraits and used his own face as a model for characters in his paintings. In one of his most famous paintings, called "Sick Baccas" (above), he drew his face as a baccas. People said this painting reflected his depression and bad temper.
However, he wasnt known for his mental state, but for his 1)dramatic use of light in most of his painting, the revolutionary technique or chiaroscuro of tenebrism 2)well balanced but non symmetrical subjects 3)the extraordinary virtuosity with which all the details are rendered , that almost looks a little photographic. 4)ability to achieve 3 Dimensionality (the function of formalism)
His method of painting was so widely imitated , that the term 'CARAVAGGIST' was coined to apply to painters who imitated the style of Caravaggio. However, a new discovery was made about his technique of painting... STAY TUNE TO MY NEXT POSTING Labels: ART, Ramadhan 07

Received an SMS over the weekend,
CAMPER is back!
Where?,...i replied
.. & so the SMSs carried on. The SMS was from an ex colleague who knows i love my CAMPER. From subsequent SMSs, i found that there's a new venue, after the one & only store in town closed down not so long ago. I was elated.
My HC neighbour loves her CAMPER too, she has countless pairs too. I have 6 pairs ONLY! ...corrections..7 pairs of CAMPER!
Then yesterday, OPS called and told me abt the same matter; A NEW CAMPER STORE! He was equally ecstatic abt the opening, however was not as thrilled with the new pricing. A pair cost at least S$300 now.
Nevertheless, a visit is a must this weekend to check out the new store, altho' my recent shoes purchase was...4days ago..it wasnt a CAMPER.
A new pair of CAMPER. A necessity!

Was watching a movie after my sahur ( a pre-dawn breakfast during Ramadhan), it wasnt a new movie, however i was moved by the theme song.
I've been living with a shadow overhead I've been sleeping with a cloud above my bed I've been lonely for so long Trapped in the past, I just can't seem to move on,
I've been hiding all my hopes and dreams away Just in case I ever need em again someday I've been setting aside time To clear a little space in the corners of my mind,
I've been watching but the stars refuse to shine I've been searching but I just don't see the signs I know that it's out there There's got to be something for my soul somewhere
I've been looking for someone to shed some light Not somebody just to get me through the night
I could use some direction And I'm open to your suggestions
All I want to do is find a way back into love I can't make it through without a way back into love And if I open my heart again I guess I'm hoping you'll be there for me in the end
Thats part of the lyrics...,
Meaningful? Definitely!
Pertinent at this juncture of my life? Perhaps!
..ermm..pondering..

This foto was taken after the TD celebration, my seniors, always full of zeal and enthusiasm, both during work and play.
However, a character becomes a topic of queries. He was cross-hatched, his own request, as he was equally puzzled, afraid to be misunderstood, as he did NOT show the same gusto as the rest..unlike him. Why the isolation? Where's the zest? Why the rejection? Why the gloominess? GUESS WHO? Labels: npcc, Ramadhan 07

Visited SAM this morning for the 'ART during the Emergency' exhibition. Works by Chua Mia Tee as shown above were some of the highlights, also on display were works of Liu Kang and Ho Ho Ying, among others.
David Hockney's and Gauguin's influences were aplenty in their works.
Learnt many new vocabulary during the visit too...needed for the assignment due soon.
